Windows 7 has reached its end; the time is nigh for the passing of Windows 7! May it rest in peace. Windows 7 is a Microsoft operating system that is very popular. It is on a lot of computers around the world and it is being phased out in January 2020, so start making plans to upgrade or replace your computer today.
Just to be clear there is nothing wrong with Windows 7. Microsoft just feels like everyone should be on Windows 10 now and have given it an end of life. That’s just how they have done all of their products. You might remember a few years ago when Windows XP had its end of life and you had to get off Windows XP in a real quick way. Well same thing here.
What This Means For You
Windows 7 won’t be getting security updates anymore and it won’t be supported by Microsoft. This means it really can’t be supported by anybody. If the people who wrote the software won’t support it, how can anybody else really support it?
It’s Time To Upgrade
It’s time to upgrade to Windows 10. You can upgrade to Windows 8 if you wanted to, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Nobody liked Windows 8. If you upgrade to Windows 10, you are going to be good because they don’t have another operating system out and may not release another operating system.
With Windows 10 they are doing build after build after build. They are rolling these builds out every 6 months or so. That seems to be the new schedule.
What Do You Need To Do?
You need to upgrade your existing computer to Windows 10 or buy a Windows 10 computer and move all your stuff over. If you are in a business this is very important because after the end of life Microsoft will not be releasing security updates. This means that you will not be PCI compliant and you will not be HIPAA compliant. Both of those compliancies require you to have an operating system that gets regular updates.
You see the problem there. It’s kind of a big deal and it’s pending. January 2020 is the cut off date. If you’re not sure give me a call and we can come out and see if you have any Windows 7 computers and give you a road map for a way forward.
Windows 10 computers are not that expensive. New computers will have warranties on them and have newer hardware that will be a lot quicker and more safe and secure. You can also upgrade your old computer to Windows 10 for various costs depending on which version of Windows 7 you are running.
Just to be clear, this applies to everybody. Home users, business users, any kind of user needs to be aware that Windows 7 has the end of life coming up soon. Give us a call and we can help sort this out for you, 865-406-4015.
