The Role of Computer Repair Technicians

October 25, 2013 By Daniel Buchanan Leave a Comment

Computer repair technicians are those people who can help you when your computer refuses to start or behaves in a weird manner. Such technicians may run their own business, offering computer repair and maintenance services to either companies or individuals. They may also choose to work as employees for bigger companies, handling all issues belonging to the IT department, starting from purchasing computers and servers, to installing new software, upgrading old one or fixing any issues that may appear.

Computer repair technician is a generic term, but this discipline includes several specializations such as data administration, data recovery or network administration. They can also work as freelancers, so they can have their own work schedule as they wish.

Other computer repair technicians may specialize in software only, which means they can detect whether a computer was infected by viruses or malware and fix the problem., Sometimes they may need to reinstall the operating system and the other programs, but usually they have powerful antivirus solutions that allow them to clean infections without deleting or damaging any other file on the hard disk.

Data recovery technicians are among the most sought-after, because hard disks may crash at any time, thus causing the loss of very important files that aren’t stored elsewhere. Such incidents may happen just because hard drives are getting older, but the most frequent causes are domestic incidents like spilling water or coffee on the laptop or dropping the laptop on the floor. A data recovery technician will analyze the hard disk and retrieve the data. This operation is quite costly because it needs to happen in a so-called “clean room”, which is a room that’s isolated against dust or other airborne particles.

As you can see, computer repair technicians can have multiple roles and specialties. Depending on the type of malfunction, you’ll need one of the above mentioned specialists to help you fix your computer.
