For this week I thought I would review Intuit Quickbooks Pro 2011. I just bought this for around $169, since I was an existing Quickbooks user. They gave me a slight discount, which is not bad considering they’re telling me I have to upgrade. The install went smoothly over my Quickbooks 2008 install and updated my company file with little effort. I did backup everything before doing the upgrade, just to be sure.
One of the best things I like about Quickbooks Pro 2011 is the startup times. I don’t do a lot of accounting, so I don’t keep Quickbooks up all the time, so when I go to launch it, I want to it hurry up so I can finish what I’m doing. Quickbooks 2011 starts really fast, much faster than Quickbooks 2008 or 2006. I’ve noticed the older versions take longer to startup, regardless of hardware on the computer, but this new version loads quick.
Something I didn’t like was the fact that Quickbooks started putting “You can pay online at…” with a url for quickbooks payment processing, without my approval or even my consent. This is not cool, Intuit! You can advertise to me all you want, but keep my customers off your marketing list. I was able to turn off this “feature” to which the program protested, but it is possible.
I am new to Quickbooks, was told by many it was easy to use and that I would love it. Not so. I have found it to be very user UNFRIENDLY and when I have asked for assistance from those that told me how easy it was, they walk away saying how different the 2011 version is, how it is difficult, items are missing that use to be user friendly etc. It is a multiple step process to enter a transaction into register that should have prompts to guide you, but as it turns out if you inadvertently miss a step it cannot be reversed, your transactions sit in an Undeposited Funds account and when you attempt to edit you end up with several transactions that mess up your account and cannot be deleted easily. When using the search feature unfortunately I have yet to get the info I am requesting. I have many hours invested in trying to navigate this product and will have to eat the initial investment and go elsewhere for a product that works with me, not against me. I cannot believe that after this many years the product is not able to be customized the way I had hoped. I have sub contractors, who are by the way NOT employees and by IRS standards should not be confused as employees however can only be listed as employees on this version, I should be able to go into an invoice and click a button to “accept payment” but once again it is a multiple step process, oh by the way, there is no “Back” button, who designed this product? Not a small business owner for sure!
Great information and facts! I have been previously trying to find something like this for a little bit now. Thanks for your insight!
Thank you..really informative!!
